Spooky Salem Elopement at The Witch House

Salem Elopement portrait taken along the waterfront

Halloween was the perfect day for Autumn and Dennis’s Salem elopement! They traveled from Detroit, MI, to get married with just their close friends, Carly and Greg. Both artists and lovers of all things spooky, wanted their day to be relaxed, fun, and true to their Halloween spirit.  My assistant Casey knows Salem like the back of her hand, so she acted as our unofficial tour guide for the day. Together, we spent hours capturing portraits around the city—it’s always an adventure on Halloween!

Halloween Wedding in Salem, MA

With its rich history, Salem draws thousands of visitors every Halloween. We spent a few hours visiting all the iconic spots in the city and saw plenty of people in costumes. Autumn and Dennis joined in by dressing in all black, while their friends went all out with face paint and costumes.

We began at the Essex Street Pedestrian Mall, walking along the cobblestone streets and stopping for portraits in front of historic doors along the way. Next, made our way to the waterfront, soaking in the festive energy and Halloween decor throughout the city. To add to the fun, we brought along some props like headbands and smoke bombs, which made for some great photos!

Salem Elopement Ceremony at The Witch House

Around five, we headed to the iconic Witch House. The Witch House, known for its ties to the 1692 Witch Trials, is a popular spot for visitors. Its dark, 17th-century architecture and eerie atmosphere made it the perfect backdrop for their ceremony. Autumn and Dennis were married by Greg right in front of the historic building. A small crowd gathered to watch as Autumn and Dennis share their first kiss as a married couple, met with cheers and applause.

As the sun set our last stop was the Old Burying Point Cemetery for some spooky photos. Be sure to check out the daguerreotype-style image Dennis specifically requested during our consultation! I had an amazing time getting creative and fully embracing the Halloween spirit with Autumn and Dennis. Their day was uniquely theirs, and we captured a wide variety of images they’ll cherish for years to come!
