Boston City Hall Elopement

I absolutely adore Boston City Hall elopements! No matter how often I photograph one, I never get bored of them. When I chatted with Stephen and Nick about their elopement plans, they told me their goal for their day was for it to be fun, relaxed, easy, and enjoyable- which it totally was!

Boston City Hall Elopement

One of the main reasons Stephen and Nick chose Boston City Hall is because of the architecture. Stephen is an architect so it was fun to incorporate the building more into their photography than I normally would. The contrast between old and new makes the City Hall and its surroundings an eclectic mix of Boston’s architectural history.

Getting married in City Hall is very simple, which was of course a priority of their day! Learn more about getting married at City Hall. After you get your marriage license, you can schedule a time for your ceremony. We started the day by meeting their family and friends outside of city hall moments before their ceremony.  We made our way up to the sixth floor with their beautiful dog Alaska and just their nearest and dearest.

After the paperwork was settled, they waited outside the room where they would say “I Do!” We were invited in for a short and sweet ceremony, and they were declared married! We then headed outside to meet with the rest of their family and friends waiting outside and threw rice as they walked out. Everyone was of course cheering and so excited for them!

When I asked the grooms about their expectations for their couple portraits, they said they wanted something unique that captured the emotions of the day—so that’s exactly what we did! My favorite moments were those just after the ceremony, focusing on the two of them. It was creatively exciting to incorporate the Brutalist architecture of Boston City Hall into their shots. Hearing their feedback while we worked together made the process even more enjoyable, and I love how their portraits turned out!

We met back up with their guests for a quick round of portraits, then headed over to the Distraction and Democracy Beer Garden right next door. After some celebratory drinks and mingling, we snuck away for a few more photos. I ended my time with them with some additional portraits around the North End, Quincy Market, the Old State House, and back by City Hall.

Stephen and Nick, thank you so much for having me photograph your day. It was such an honor and a pleasure! Getting married at Boston City Hall? Inquire with Katlyn Reilly Photography today to get started!
